Hey, people over in Charlottesville, Virginia! Go check out Laura Ball’s current works at 2nd Street Gallery for a special free Family Art Day event happening this Saturday from 10am-1pm. There will be hands-on art projects for children of all ages—visitors can take inspiration from Laura’s works to create their own. In addition, Dimitri Dimitri will be performing live music.
We’ve been brewing up some exciting projects here for a while here at the gallery and today is the day we can finally begin to share some of them with you all! We are so thrilled to present to you a whole new set of media in the form a series of Swarm artist video profiles that explore the process and ideas behind the work of our gallery and affiliate artists.
This first profile features the artists from our most recent show Of Course Not, Jessalyn Aaland and Paul Morgan. The piece was created entirely by our friend Bram Draper (with a little help from gallery associate Robin Ward) and was shot on New Year’s Eve in Jessalyn and Paul’s incredible live/work artist funhouse.
This is the first in a series of artist profiles we’ll be revealing over the next few months. Repost and spread the video love (and stay tuned)!

After mentioning Katy Horan’s featured work at Buy Some Damn Art earlier today, I noticed that Swarm’s Jillian Ludwig was mentioned earlier this week over at Art Hound, BSDA’s sister site. Head over there to scope Jillian’s work and to see a nicely curated selection of other great artists from all over!

Swarm’s Jeff Eisenberg is in a solo exhibition that opened in December at POVevolving Gallery in LA. The show, Convergent De-evolution, features new graphite drawings that “suggest multiple readings of a single image; friend or foe; decay or past.” Check it out before it comes down next weekend! Click through for images from the show.

We’re really thrilled to present Of Course Not, a two person show by Oakland locals Jessalyn Aaland and Paul Morgan, opening this Saturday January 14th from 6-8! Jessalyn and Paul will be DJing some tunes of the dancehall/international/jazz variety. We will also have kettlecorn treats and handcrafted cocktails on hand!

People. Did you know we used to primarily answer to the name Swarm Studios? Have you checked out our studios lately? Because they are a really special component of the gallery that we’d love to share with the world.

Ethan Worden, T(HERE) (2010), Neon, 7 x 29 x 2.5 inches
Southern Exposure has a great show opening Friday, November 11, featuring Swarm’s Ethan Worden. The group exhibition, Working Conditions, features Ethan and 8 other artists working on process-based installations for the duration of the exhibit (through January 6th). More from SOEX about the show:Working Conditions is a process-based project featuring nine artists invited by Southern Exposure’s Curatorial Committee. Each artist creates his or her own work environment as installation within the gallery and keeps regular work hours there, while developing a project rooted in notions of production, labor, and process. Rather than working alone in their studios, the artists in this exhibition are obliged to interact with their environment as they operate in full view of the public in an open space they share with one another. Each artist will work at Southern Exposure for fifteen hours per week or more.
Opening reception is Friday, November 11, 2011, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Hope to see you all there celebrating 11/11/11 the right way!
